| ......When Steve and Isabel
Darwin opened Darwin’t Ltd. in 1993, the neighborhood
welcomed them with open arms. A convenience store had long
been in this space, but the previous incarnation had been
a pit. The Darwins cleaned up the space considerably, painted
it, and gave it a fresh face.
The store is now a combination upscale convenience store
and deli. A deli (& cafe) is what the couple had planned
to start with, and the neighbors told them what else they
wanted. You can buy shampoo, Iggy’s Breads, soda, and
fresh produce from Russo’s.
When I visited, a customer stopped me and said, “ You
know what makes this place so great? Steve and Isabel.”
The couple provides service - and great sandwiches, which
they have named after area streets. The Chapman features (Boston
Globe Calendar “Hit of the Week”) “awesome”
egg salad and roasted red peppers, and it is excellent egg
salad.....
