........Here is a hit I hope readers can use: I recently descovered a wonderful
eatery on Mt. Auburn St. called Darwin’s. At first glance,
it looks like it might be bar, but upon entering one finds
a charming sandwich/wine/grocery store.
The sandwich combinations are interisting, the fruit is the
freshest and tastiest I’ve found in the Square, and
the staff is friendly and funky. To top it all off, they always
have great music playing! Darwin’s is at 148 Mt. Auburn
St. (on the left, going towards Watertown).

........An
All-time favorite Darwin’s Lltd., located at 148 Mt.
Auburn St., within walking distance of Harvard Square, serves
the most scrumptious soups, perfect for the upcoming winter
months. With names like Veggie
Inspiration with ginger-scallion butter, and Carrot Velvet,
these soups taste as wonderful as they sound. Darwin’s
also has an assortment of yummy, sandwiches, pastries, coffees,
fresh fruit and unusual grocery items.
(This popular spot has been
nominated twice before, so with this third listing, we shall
retire this suggestion to “Calvin Phillippe’s
Harvard Hits Hall of Fame.” ~Ed.)
